EMCC EIA Practitioner: Requirements, Cost & European Recognition
The EMCC EIA Practitioner is the core European coaching credential. Here's what you need to earn it.
What Is the EMCC EIA Practitioner?
The EMCC EIA Practitioner is the second level of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council's individual accreditation framework. It is designed for coaches who have moved beyond the foundational stage and have between 75 and 149 hours of professional coaching or mentoring experience.
At the Practitioner level, coaches are expected to demonstrate consistent application of core coaching competencies, engagement with supervision, and commitment to ongoing professional development. This credential signals genuine professional standing to European employers and corporate buyers.
EMCC EIA Practitioner Requirements
- Coaching hours: 75–149 hours of coaching/mentoring practice
- Supervision: Evidence of regular engagement with a qualified supervisor
- Reflective log: Documented reflective practice journal
- Portfolio submission: Written evidence mapped to EMCC competency framework at Practitioner level
- CPD record: Evidence of continuing professional development
- EMCC membership: Active EMCC member in good standing
- Code of Ethics: Agreement to EMCC Global Code of Ethics
EMCC Competency Framework at Practitioner Level
EMCC uses an 8-competency framework. At Practitioner level, assessors look for:

- Managing the contract (contracting with clients)
- Building the relationship (establishing trust)
- Enabling insight and learning (coaching skills in practice)
- Outcome and action orientation
- Use of models and techniques
- Evaluation of outcomes
EMCC EIA Practitioner Cost
- EMCC membership: €80–€200/year (required)
- EIA Practitioner application fee: Approx. €400–€600
- Total investment: Significantly lower than ICF equivalent credentials
EMCC EIA Practitioner vs ICF ACC: European Context
For coaches based in Europe or targeting European corporate clients, the EMCC EIA Practitioner often carries equal or greater weight than the ICF ACC, particularly in:
- Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH region)
- France and the Benelux countries
- Nordic countries
- EU government and public sector organizations
Many European coaches hold both credentials — EMCC for European credibility and ICF for global portability. See our ICF vs EMCC vs AC guide.
How EMCC EIA Practitioner Differs from ICF
- Assessment approach: Portfolio and reflective narrative vs. ICF's performance recording and exam
- Mentoring included: EMCC explicitly covers both coaching and mentoring; ICF is coaching-focused
- Supervision emphasis: EMCC places stronger emphasis on ongoing supervision as a professional requirement
- Community: EMCC has a strong European professional community with annual conferences and research
